FACE UP: The Final Meeting in Gijon

From October 1st to 4th, 2024, Gijon hosted the final meeting of the FACE UP project, bringing together international partners and local citizens to share results, best practices, and visions for the future of territorial welfare in Europe.

The first day was introduced by Montserrat Lopez Moro, Deputy Mayor of Culture, and Poli Canteli, Head of the Communication Office for Culture. After a quick recap of the project, each partner presented the local activities implemented
In the afternoon, participants explored two iconic locations in Gijon: the Celestino Solar Citadel Museum, which showcases the living conditions of the working class from the 19th to the 20th century, and the Laboral – City of Culture, a magnificent architectural complex initially designed as an orphanage for miners’ children and later transformed into a cultural and educational center.

The second day featured a creative challenge: identifying the best welfare practice among those proposed by the partners. In the morning, company representatives and participants prepared an Elevator Pitch to present their projects, followed by a visit to the Asturias Railway Museum.

In the afternoon, the group engaged in a brainstorming session for the “Compendium on the City of the Future EU,” developing an ideal map of a sustainable and inclusive city. This work will continue in the final month of the project.

The day concluded with a public event open to citizens, featuring the screening of the short film “Rewind” in the presence of the director. This was followed by presentations of best practices from partners, with the audience voting for the best initiative:
